Last Friday night, I received messages from friends on Facebook asking me if I’ve already seen my interview on TV5. The interview was conducted on July 17 right after the MOCHA GIRLS’ performance at the relaunch of St. Luke’s Cancer Institute Global. Ever since my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, the Mocha Girls and I have been active advocates for breast cancer awareness. The reporter asked me about my thoughts on Ellen Adarna’s interview in which she openly admitted that her “boobs are fake”. The interview became a trending topic online. The original title of the video interview was, “Mocha, Pinag-initan ang dibdib ni Ellen” (Ellen’s boobs nitpicked by Mocha). I saw comments like, “Mocha’s jealous of Ellen’s boobs”, “Mocha’s bitter”, “Mocha sounds a little jelly cuz she kept mentioning “fake boobs”. I am not bitter and I’m not jealous of Ellen Adarna’s boobs. When I said “fake boobs”, I just quoted what Ellen said in her interviews, that her “boobs are fake” . Watch my interview here (MOCHA INTERVIEW ON TV5) : The network edited out most of my interview due to time constraint. I mentioned in my interview that what Ellen did was right, when she admitted that her “boobs are fake”. I said that we should be proud of what we have. Like me, I’m proud of my boobs, they’re 100% natural. The reporter asked me about my final message to “those WOMEN who had their boobs done” (and NOT just Ellen) , and so I said, “women with silicone implants should take extra care of their boobs”.
I don’t condemn women with breast implants. It’s just sad that we live in a society which equate confidence with good looks and place too much value on physical appearance. Yes, plastic surgery can transform the looks for the better. But confidence comes from within. A sense of low self-esteem will make people feel ugly despite great looks. The bottom line is this, whether they’re fake or natural, women need to take extra care of their breasts. Breast cancer has overtaken lung cancer as the most prevalent form of cancer in our country. We are number one for breast cancer in Asia.
And by the way ladies, if your boyfriend is pressuring you to get a boob job to look more beautiful and satisfy him in bed- LEAVE HIM. You deserve better.
